What is actually a .swf-file, such as the one you provide for download?

t-pse was developed with version 7 of Adobe Flash. The file extension .swf originally stood for "ShockWave Flash". According to Adobe, it now stands for "Small Web Format". The history of the different technologies developed by Adobe over time, usually just called "ShockWave", is rather intricate, and can therefore not be described here.

.swf files, often also called Flash Player "Movies" are created with Adobe Flash to be published online.

What do I need in order to use the downloaded .swf-file?

t-pse is distributed in the .swf format. You can either run it directly on our website with your browser or download it. Adobe calls all playback possibilities for .swf files "Flash-Player". In most cases, "Flash-Player" refers to a browser plug-in. It can either be integrated in the browser by default or downloaded in the latest version from the Adobe website for your operating system and favourite browser.

t-pse requires a Flash Player supporting the functions of Adobe Flash version 7 or later. Otherwise, you may not be able to run t-pse or parts of it (i.e. printing).

In case of doubt, you can download the latest version of FlashPlayer for your browser from www.adobe.com/flashplayer.

How do I run the downloaded t-pse with my browser?

A .swf file may be opened in a browser in several ways:

  1. drag the .swf file with the mouse to an open browser window and drop it there, or
  2. assign .swf files permanently to the browser (i.e. with windows XP either using the windows "Folder Options" dialog box or by right-clicking the .swf icon and choosing "Open with - Chose program ...." and then checking the option "Always open this type of file with this program/software, or
  3. use the "Open" function of the browser from the File menu

The latter works straightforwardly for Mozilla Firefox. Things are a bit more complicated for Internet Explorer, if .swf files are assigned to another program, e.g. IrfanView. With Internet Explorer, after clicking "Open" in the file menu, check the "Open as web folder" box, then select the .swf file on your hard disk and open it. You will then be asked whether you want to open the folder as a website. Please confirm.

t-pse opens an IrfanView window on my computer, but I can't print. What is this due to?

IrfanView's Flash plug-in supports the functions of Adobe up to version 4. t-pse was developed with Flash 7, thus certain functions, e.g. printing, cannot be used with the IrfanView plug-in. However you can open the downloaded .swf file with your browser.

Is t-pse dangerous? - In our company, I may not use it according to the IT-department!

No, t-pse contains no harmful function. However, as this does not necessarily apply to all Flash applications available on the internet, it is quite possible that your administrator has generally blocked the use and/or download of Flash Player movies. In this case, you might ask the person in charge whether he/she can allow it specially for you or for t-pse.
